The Town of Claremont is committed to developing and fostering art and culture within the local community. Providing the opportunity to express and celebrate our creativity, identity and history is an integral part of the Town’s cultural identity.

The Town of Claremont recognises the significance that arts and cultural development plays towards community enrichment. Making visual art broadly accessible to the community helps to develop civic pride, creates opportunity for community engagement and contributes to a sense of place.

As part of our commitment, the Town offers a range of activities, initiatives and activations. You can read more about these below.

Artist Opportunities

Please see below for details of each current Artist opportunity.

Conveniently located at 64 Bay View Terrace, the newly refurbished Bay View Community Centre will provide a premium facility on offer for various community groups and individuals.

The Town is now seeking expressions of interest for those artists (including performance artists) interested in hosting both one-off and regular workshops at this new community facility.

Please complete the following form to indicate your expression of interest here.

The Town of Claremont is excited to provide a young aspiring artist with the opportunity to grow their career and gain invaluable experience in a paid mentorship initiative.

The initiative will see a young artist (16-25 years) work alongside an experienced mural artist to create a new public art mural at our new Bay View Community Centre.

Bay View Community Centre is our recently refurbished community centre, overlooking the beautiful Claremont Park. The space attracts a diverse range of community members throughout the day, providing great exposure for the awarded artist.

This mentorship covers all the steps of designing, creating and painting the mural.

The vision for this new public art mural is to provide an inspiring and visually appealing addition to enhance the experience of community members visiting the centre.

The Expression of Interest (EOI) is open to any Town of Claremont young person or emerging artist aged 16-25 years. The successful person will be paid a Mentee Artist Fee of $1,000.00 (ex GST) for their contribution to the creation of the new public artwork mural.

To submit your EOI: Those interested in applying should send a cover letter (max 2 pages) explaining the motivation behind their submission and being involved in this paid art opportunity. Applicants must also include up to six images of previous artworks(s) they have created that demonstrate artistic style, ability and quality of work.

Submissions should be sent to artawards@claremont.wa.gov.au

Submissions close at 4pm on Wednesday 29 January 2025.

Activations

The Town works with local artists and businesses to create engaging activations each year.

In 2024 the Luminous Street Festival took place which saw Bay View Terrace within the Claremont Town Centre transform into an illuminated wonderland.

This event was very well attended and drew visitors from outside the local area into the Claremont Town Centre.

Partnerships

The Town enjoys a partnership with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) which allows the magic of symphony music to be enjoyed by residents and the community alike. WASO feature at our Carols in the Park event and also A Night on Bay View each year.

Through our Community Funding program we also have a partnership with the Claremont Concert Band.

Art Awards & Exhibition

The Town runs a biennial Art Award & Exhibition to support and celebrate West Australian emerging and established artists across a variety of art forms, including oil, watercolour, ink, sculpture, and mixed media.
