An extraordinary true story of the audacious attempt to free six Irish prisoners from a remote British prison. From half a world away, supporters and spies hatches a plot to return the men to freedom. Join us at Claremont Museum to hear from Joy and Mike Lefroy, who have an upcoming book with Fremantle Press in March 2026 in advance of the 150th anniversary of the 1876 Easter Monday Catalpa escape.

Joy Lefroy is an author, educator and printmaker. She has a passion for the history and heritage of Western Australia and, with her partner Mike, they host walks, talks and general stories of local history through their business Museums Without Walls. Previously she was Head of Education at the National Trust of Western Australia.

Mike Lefroy is an educator, writer and historian. He loves the challenge of bringing Western Australian stories to life through his books, street walks, lectures and museum tours. He previously worked as Head of Education with the H.M. Bark Endeavour project and the WA Maritime Museum.
